Intricately engraved antique stock certificate from the Belleville and Southern Illinois Railroad Company dating back to the 1890's. This document, which is signed by the company President and Secretary, was printed by Henry Siebert & Bros. and measures approximately 10 1/2" (w) by 7" (h).

 

This certificate features a pair of train scenes. A broad scene showing a train leaving a logging and oil operation at the top, and a smaller depiction of a train rounding a riverside bend at the bottom.

    Historical Context

    The Belleville and Southern Illinois Railroad was incorporated in 1857 and operated as an independent railroad for 40 years.

    In 1897, the line was merged into St. Louis, Alton & Terre Haute Railroad.
