Nicely engraved antique bond certificate from the Bayano River Lumber Company dating back to the early 1900's. This document, which contains the signatures of the company President and Secretary, was printed by Smith & Thomson, and measures approximately 10 1/2" (w) by 15" (h).
This certificate's vignette features a man standing in front of a huge tree.
The Bayano River Lumber Company was incorporated in the state of Maine in 1907 to run a lumber operation on the Bayano River in the Republic of Panama. The company owned over 115,000 acres of land, but much of it was to difficult to access efficiently, leading to the company's rather quick demise.
The company was heavily hyped - mostly by Los Angeles businessmen, but most investors lost their entire investment.
