Historical Context
The Atlas Corporation was incorporated in Virginia in 1917 as a successor the Atlas Company, which had been incorporated in Illinois two years earlier.
The company operated a taxi service in Chicago. As of 1919, the company owned 117 Chalmers & Winton limousines and touring cars.
The company's offices were located on S. Wabash Avenue.
The company set off a price war in the Chicago taxi industry in 1915 when the city council voted to allow companies to charge lower fares. The opportunity gave birth to the Atlas Company, who entered the market that year with fares that were 1/3 to 1/2 less than what the six existing Chicago cab companies had been charging.
