Historical Context
The Ashland Home Telephone Company was incorporated in Ashland, Wisconsin in June of 1902 to provide telephone service to the Ashland and Parishville areas. Over the years, the company branched out to other communities in the area, but in 1916, the company reached an agreement with the Wisconsin Telephone Company to service only the greater Ashland area. In return for discontinuing their service to surrounding communities, the Ashland Home Telephone Company gained exclusive service rights for Ashland proper, with Wisconsin Telephone exiting the city. |
