Historical Context
The American State Bank of Detroit was originally incorporated in 1906 as the Fairview Savings Bank. The original location was on Detroit's east side, but when the bank outgrew its location, in 1912 the company moved to downtown Detroit and became the American State Bank of Detroit. The company's new location was on Griswold Street in the heart of the city's financial district.
The company would go on to open numerous branches around the city.
