The American Ship and Commerce Corporation was incorporated on July 18, 1919 by George Herbert Walker (maternal grandfather of President George H. W. Bush) to be subsidiary of the W.A. Harriman & Co., with contractual power over the affairs of the Hamburg-Amerika line.
The Hamburg-Amerika line was used to ship American weapons to Germany.
The company was also engaged in passenger transport and shipbuilding and controlled or owned:
