Intricately engraved antique stock certificate from the Albany Railway dating back to the 1870's. This document, which has been signed by the company President and Treasurer, was printed by Weed, Parsons & Company of Albany, and measures approximately 10" (w) by 5 1/4" (h).

The Albany Railway was incorporated in New York on April 14, 1864 as horse drawn trolley line.
The line began service later that year. In 1899, the line was electrified, and later that same year it was merged with the Troy City Railway, the Watervliet Turnpike and Railway Company and the Lumber District Line to form the United Traction Company.
The United Traction Company was purchased by the Delaware & Hudson in 1906.
