    Historical Context

The Alaska Gold Mines Company was organized in 1912 to control the Alaska Gastineau Mining Company, which began operations a year earlier.

The company's mining properties (Alaska Perseverance, Ground Hog, Silver Bow Basin, Sheep Creek) were lcoated in the Juneau Gold Belt on the Gold Creek Lode. The Alaska Gold Mines Company also had water rights for power development on Salmon Creek (the company owned several hydroelectric power plants that supplied power to Juneau,) and a mill site on the shores of Gastineau Channel.

    Operations closed in 1921.
