Historical Context
The Fairmont and Mannington Railroad was incorporated in West Virginia on March 18, 1904. The line ran between the two named cities - a distance of just over 15 miles.
In 1912, the Fairmont and Clarksburg Traction Company was merged with the Fairmont and Northern Traction Company and the Clarksburg and Western Electric Railway Company to form the Monongahela Valley Traction Company. The Fairmont and Mannington Railroad Company was also folded into the new entity.
The Monongahela Valley Traction Company became the Monongahela Power and Railway Company in 1921, and two years later became the Monongahela West Penn Public Service Company.
