Beautifully engraved antique stock certificate from the New York Lake Erie and Western Docks and Improvement Company dating back to the 1800's. This document was printed by Francis & Loutrel and measures approximately 10 1/4" (w) by 7 1/4" (h).
This certificate's fantastic vignette features a detailed wharf scene complete with a paddlewheeler, train and horse drawn cart.

Historical Context
The New York, Lake Erie and Western Docks and Improvement Company was incorporated June 28, 1881, under the general laws of New Jersey for the purpose of acquiring, reclaiming, and improving lands in Weehawken, Hudson County, New Jersey and the construction of docks, warehouses, elevators, and railways, and to engage in the transportation, storage, transfer, or commission business incident thereto.
The company was leased to, and operated by, the New York, Lake Erie and Western Railroad.
