Historical Context
The contract to build a interurban rail line between Seattle and Tacoma was originally awarded to C. E. Muckler and M. J. Wightman under the name Seattle-Tacoma Short Line - Muckler has signed this piece as the company Secretary.
The line was to run from Fourth Avenue, along Spokane Street to the Seattle city limits before following the shore of the Puget Sound all the way to Tacoma. It was to be known as the "One Hour Scenic Route." Little work was ever done on the road, however, and the franchise was taken away from the Muckler and Wightman, and transfered to a new entity, the Seattle-Tacoma Short Line Company in 1909.
In 1915, the Seattle city council rescinded the franchise for the line after little to no work was completed.
