Historical Context
J. G. White and Company formed the National Toll Bridge Company in 1928 with the express purpose of financing the construction and operation of new and existing toll bridges. The company was incorporated in Maryland and based in New York.
The company issued class A common stock, which immediately funded the construction of three new toll bridges:
- A bridge over the Ohio River between Milton, Kentucky and Madison, Indiana
- Two bridges over the Missouri River at Hermann and Courtney, Missouri
White and Company would design, construct, and operate the proposed bridges until the respective states could buy them.
