Historical Context
The Utica and Waterville Rail Road Company was incorporated in New York in 1866 as the successor of the Utica City Railroad. Two years later, the line became part of the Utica, Clinton and Binghamton Railroad, which eventually became part of the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad system.
No physical track was constructed until the line was under the control of the Utica, Clinton and Binghamton Railroad.
