Historical Context
The Ware Radio Corporation was founded in 1922 by former seagoing wireless telegraph operator Paul Ware. Ware had studied at the Stevens Institute of Technology under Louis Alan Hazeltine, and after graduating the two continued to collaborate in the development of radio receivers. Ware's company was based on one of Ware's developments, but working there led Hazeltine to the invention of the noise-reducing radio reception system known as the Neutrodyne, which quickly became the industry standard. Ware, as other radio companies, would pay royalties to Hazeltine.
Like many radio manufacturers, the company grew quickly in the initial years despite Ware's inexperience in management, and attracted investment from Wall Street. As early as 1926 however, management and quality problems, plus a final blow given by a patent infringement suit by RCA, drove the company to bankruptcy.
