Historical Context
On July 27, 1896 the United Traction Company (UTC) was chartered and absorbed the Second Avenue Traction Company and the North Side Traction Company.
Over the next few years, the company acquired the leases of the Pittsburgh, Allegheny and Manchester Traction Company, the Federal Street & Pleasant Valley Passenger Railway and the Pittsburgh & Birmingham Traction Company.
The United Traction Company became part of the Pittsburgh Railways Company system in 1902.
