Historical Context
In 1893, the Edison Illuminating Company of St. Louis was organized and acquired the property of the Municipal Electric Light and Power Company.
This company was operated as an independent lighting company until 1897, when the Missouri-Edison Electric Company was organized for the purpose of consolidating the electric lighting and power interests of St. Louis. This new company absorbed the Missouri Electric Light & Power Company, the Edison Illuminating Company of St. Louis, and the St. Louis Electric Light & Power Company.
