Nicely engraved antique stock certificate from the Arkansas Southern Railroad Company dating back to the early 1900's. This document, which has been signed by the company President and Secretary, measures approximately 10 1/2" (w) by 8 1/4" (h).
This certificate's vignette features an eagle on top of a shield.

Historical Context
This company was incorporated in 1892 in Louisiana and Arkansas and was based in Ruston, Louisiana.
By 1901, the company ran from St. Louis, Missouri to Winfield, Louisiana. The company's Magnolia branch ran from Junction City to Magnolia, Arkansas.
The company also had expansion plans southward to Sabine City, Texas, which eventually became a Rock Island branch.
