Historical Context
The Silver Mountain Mining Company was incorporated in January of 1877 in Wyoming by Henry L. Tyler, George J. Chubb, R. P. Vail, A. Simpson, and E. C. Bruen. The company "operated" a mine in the Ferris District in Carbon County.
The following year the company was exposed as a swindle despite their subdued claims that the mine "is now being worked on the California plan. Persons who invest a few dollars to develop the Mine may realize a fortune. Many a person who went to California poor, are worth millions made through this plan." Who would have thought the company wasn't above board?
