The Second & Third Street Passenger Railway Company of Philadelphia was incorporated 1858. The line was leased in 1893 to Frankford & Southwark Railway, and subsequently leased in 1893 to Electric Traction Company of Philadelphia.
In 1895, the Electric Traction Company of Philadelphia became the Union Traction Company.
