Historical Context
The Scottish American Land Company was formed in 1880 in Palo Alto County, Iowa as a vehicle to resettle Scottish immigrants in the United States.
Alexander Peddie was the brainchild of the company, which purchased over 100,000 acres in Palo Alto and Emmett Counties.
The area of the "settlement" was described as "one of the loneliest parts of the western prairie.
