Historical Context
The Buffalo, Thousand Islands and Portland Railroad Company was incorporated in New York to build from a connection with the Rome, Watertown & Ogdensburgh Railroad at Suspension Bridge to Buffalo, a distance of about twenty-five miles.
The company managed to build about 50 yards of track, before its properties were sold to the International Railway, an interurban. The 50 yards of completed line made it the shortest railroad in the United States.
