Product Details
Beautifully engraved antique stock certificate from the Pittsburg Ice Company dating back to the early 1900's. This certificate, which is signed by the company President and Secretary, was printed by the Western Bank Note Company and measures approximately 11 3/4" (w) by 8" (h).
This certificate features a pair of great vignettes - the Pennsylvania State Seal can be seen at the upper right side, and a polar bear on an ice flow, with a ship in the background, appears at the left.

Historical Context
The Pittsburg Ice Company was incorporated in Pennsylvania and served the area in and around Pittsburgh. The company operated six artesian wells that went down to the depth of the local bedrock and produced, as company literature said, water that was "bubbling, sparkling and flawless as a diamond."
To battle against typhoid fever, and its then-rampant occurrences in water sources, the Pittsburg Ice Company extracted water from its wells, converted it to steam, distilled it, and then froze it in portable blocks.
