Historical Context
The Ridge Avenue Passenger Railway Company was formed on March 8, 1872 as a consolidation of the Girard College Passenger Railway and the Ridge Avenue and Manayunk Passenger Railway.
The route of road, streets occupied, and connections included:
- From Manayunk to Second and Arch via Ridge Avenue
- Tenth and Arch Streets, returning Arch Street to Ninth Street, then following Ridge Avenue to Manayunk.
- Double track on Ridge Avenue and Arch Street.
Exchange tickets were sold with Citizens' Passenger Railway Company and the Lehigh Avenue Passenger Railway Company.
The company was leased by the Philadelphia Traction Company in 1892.
