Historical Context
Captain Isaac E. Emerson, of Emerson Drug Company fame, had perfected a soft drink which met with popular approval, it being one that was pleasant to the taste, refreshing, and a thirst quencher, and adopted for this beverage the trade name Emerson's Ginger-Mint Julep. Before determining to exploit this drink nationally, the Emerson Drug Company decided to try it out in Baltimore, Philadelphia and Washington.
Results were so encouraging that the company decided to make a national drive on the drink, and follow the same plan of cooperation with the Retail Dealers in soft drinks that proved successful with Emerson's Bromo-Seltzer in 1891.
Accordingly, Emerson incorporated a new entity, known as The Ginger-Mint Julep Company in Maryland in 1923.
The company reported encouraging sales in its first year, while trying to penetrate the fountain soda counter marketplace and was actually in existence for over 10 years before sales flattened and ended the run.
