The Continental Passenger Railway Company of Philadelphia was chartered on September 3, 1873 in Pennsylvania by Peter Arrell Brown Widener and William H. Kemble.
The line was leased to the Union Passenger Railway in 1880, who subsequently leased it to the Philadelphia Traction Company four years later.
