Historical Context
The Big Level & Kinzua Railroad was incorporated in Pennsylvania on August 27, 1881 and was the brainchild of Elisha Kent Kane. The line ran from Mt. Jewett to Ormsby - a distance of 10.7 miles.
The road, which was completed in 1886, was operated by the Bradford, Bordell & Kinzua Railroad under a joint agreement between the Big Level & Kinzua Railroad and the Pittsburgh & Western Railroad.
On December 11, 1903, the Bradford, Bordell & Kinzua Railroad was purchased by the Buffalo & Susquehanna Railroad. The following year, the line became the Buffalo, Bradford & Kane Railroad.
