Historical Context
The Allentown Rail-Road company was founded to build a line to transport anthracite from the lower Schuylkill basin to Allentown. The line was also planned to connect with the Schuylkill and Susquehanna Railroad that ran through northern Lebanon County.
However, the Philadelphia & Reading obtained controlling interest in both railroads in 1869 and merged them into its system. The project collapsed and was never revived.
