Historical Context
The Buffalo Pipe Line Company was incorporated in New York in 1877. The company operated pipelines from the northwest Pennsylvania (Bradford District) oil fields to Buffalo where oil was placed into tanks and then railway tanker cars. It terminated on 50 acres of the Schermerhorn property with 4 large tanks with a capacity of 35,000 gallons each.
The pipeline was 4 inches in diameter with the capability of discharging 5000-6000 barrels per day.
