Historical Context
The Choctaw and Chickasaw Railroad Company filed articles of incorporation in October 1893 in the Territory of Oklahoma. The company headquarters was to be located in Ft. Smith.
The road was to run from a point in the eastern line of the Choctaw Nation upon the western line of Arkansas at Fort Smith, Sebastian County, at or near the confluence of the Poteau and Arkansas rivers, then proceed in a northerly direction in and through the county of Sebastian to a point one mile from the point of beginning at or near Vine Street.
Incorporators included E.W. Wright of Ft. Smith, Allen Wright of Atoka, James Brizzolara, Wm. H.H. Clayton, R.E. Rabon of Ft. Smith, Newton Childs of Kansas City, and G.P. Rider of Ft. Smith.
The railroad never materialized, but in 1903, the company was revived by C. M. Cade and Willard Johnston of Shawnee, Oklahoma; J. W. McCloud and F. A. Molitor or Little Rock, Arkansas; and H. H. Hagan, C. M. Barnes and A. G. C. Bierer of Guthrie, Oklahoma. Company offices were located in Shawnee.
A line was eventually constructed from Ardmore to Red River - a distance of about 28 miles.
The road was eventually controlled by the Choctaw, Oklahoma and Gulf Railroad.
