Nicely engraved antique stock certificate from the Erie and Western Transportation Company dating back to the 1880's. This document, which is signed by the company President, Treasurer and Secretary, was printed by Stephen Greene Lith. of Philadelphia and measures approximately 10 1/4" (w) by 8 1/4" (h).
This certificate features a nice vignette of the Pennsylvania State Seal with a paddlewheeler in the background.

Historical Context
The Erie and Western Transportation Company was incorporated in Pennsylvania on June 21, 1865.
Better known as the Anchor Line, the company operated a line of steamers between Chicago, Illinois; Buffalo, New York; Erie, Pennsylvania and Duluth, Minnesota.
The company was acquired by the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1900.
