Intricately engraved antique stock certificate from the Nashville & Decatur Rail Road Company dating back to the 1880's. This document, which is signed by the company President and Secretary, was printed by the Brandon Prinitng Co. and measures approximately 10 1/2" (w) by 7 3/4" (h).
This piece features a pair of vignettes - a train at a busy depot at the top and an allegorical female figure carrying a bundle of harvested wheat.

This line originally dates back to the mid 19th century when the Tennessee & Alabama Central Rail Road, the Central Southern Railroad and the Tennessee & Alabama Rail Road were consolidated to form the Nashville and Decatur Railroad.
At its peak, the company operated over 130 miles of track, and was eventually taken over by the Louisville & Nashville Railroad Company in 1871.
