Beautifully engraved antique bond certificate from the Lehigh and Lake Erie Railroad Company dating back to the early 1900's. This document, which is signed by the company Vice President and Secretary, was printed by the American Bank Note Company and measures approximately 10" (w) by 15" (h).

 

The certificate's detailed vignette features a train steaming under a signal tower and past some track workers carrying a rail. Factories dominate the background.

 

A page and a half coupons and an extension agreement remain attached at the top margin.

    Historical Context

    The Lehigh and Lake Erie Railroad Company was incorporated in New York on May 7, 1896.

    The line ran from Buffalo to Tift Farm in South Buffalo. It was financed by the Lehigh Valley Railroad and served as a cut off for that road.

    The company was conveyed to the Lehigh Valley Railway Company on June 27, 1907.
