Historical Context
The New York Kerosene Oil Engine Company was incorporated in New York in 1899. The company was based at Burling Slip, which was located in downtown Manhattan along the East River.
The company patented a marine engine that ran on kerosene - something that had proven difficult (if not impossible) at the time. The company also produced engines for motor carriages, battery storage and other industrial applications.
Later, the company was involved in shipbuilding from a plant located in College Point.
