Historical Context
This line was originally organized as the Delhi and Middletown Railroad, but when that company ran into financial problems, its assets were sold and in 1881 the Delhi and Hudson River Railroad was formed.
The new company had Thomas Cornell as President, and Thomas C. Platt, William C. Sheldon, John S. Martin, Daniel B. Halstead, and other prominent capitalists as Directors.
The line extended from the village of Delhi to a point on the Ulster and Delaware Railroad known as Arkville, a distance of about thirty miles, all in Delaware county, New York.
