Historical Context
The New York and Coney Island was incorporated on February 5, 1879 to build a 2 1/2 mile route that began at Coney Island at the terminal of the Prospect Park and Coney Island Railroad running westerly along Coney Island a terminating at a steamboat dock on Gravesend Bay.
The line opened on June 9, 1879.
Later that year, the Prospect Park and Coney Island took control of the line.
