Historical Context
Magnolia Park was located in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, on Frank J Clancy Boulevard (later renamed Downs Boulevard), between Airline Highway and New Veterans Memorial Highway.
The Pari-mutuel harness racing track opened in 1954. The racing season started in September and ran through Thanksgiving day, when the New Orleans Fairground opened for its season. In 1959 the track was renamed Jefferson Downs, and in 1965 Hurricane Betsy destroyed the park, leading to a new Jefferson Downs being built in a different location.
The land under the original track was remedied and later used to build LaFreniere Park, which opened in 1982.
