Historical Context
The Continental Candy Corporation was incorporated in May of 1919 and immediately purchased two plants previously associated with the Corn Products Refining Company - one in Chicago and one in Jersey City, New Jersey.
The company filed for bankruptcy in 1921 when their sugar stocks were depreciated by falling sugar prices, and the construction of a new plant in Jersey City, ran well over budget.
