Historical Context
The American Salvage Company was incorporated in New Jersey in 1916 and was based in Paterson.
The company controlled the patents to the Sisson Deep Sea Diving Machine, used in the salvage operation of sunken ships. The Sisson Deep Diving Machine was designed to work down to a depth of 500 feet. The vessel would allow divers to attach floating pontoons to the sunken vessels to raise them to the surface.
Despite the inventive process, the company was insolvent by 1923.
