Historical Context
The Standard Air Brake Company was incorporated in the state of New York in 1895. The company's headquarters were located at 100 Broadway in Manhattan. The company was considered to be the first to manufacture street railway air brakes.
The company was acquired by the Westinghouse Air Brake Company on 1901, and continued to operate under the Standard Traction Brake Company moniker, a Westinghouse concern incorporated in New Jersey.
