Historical Context
The Dutchess Amusement Operators was incorporated in June 1939 by Max and Benjamin Ginsberg of Beacon, New York. The company operated a movie theater in Beacon.
In 1943, Dutchess Amusements filed a lawsuit against Paramount Pictures and the recently opened Ritz and Broadway Theaters in Newburgh, New York, which sat directly across the Hudson River. Paramount, which owned 100% of Netco Theaters Corp, which operated the Newburgh theaters, gave those theaters a 14-day clearance for new feature films - meaning they could show the film a full two weeks before the Beacon theater could.
An arbitrator ruled in favor of Dutchess Amusement Operators, Inc. "on the grounds that while the two towns were across the Hudson River from each other, the only means of communication between them was by ferry boat. Abolishment of clearance, he ruled, would not affect the grosses of the Ritz and Broadway."
The ruling does not appear to have helped the company, however, as there is no history on the company after that year.
