Historical Context
The Cedar Falls and Minnesota Railroad Company was incorporarted in Iowa on April 16, 1858. It was organized to construct and operate a railroad from a junction with the Dubuque & Sioux City Railroad in or near the town of Cedar Falls to the Minnesota state line. The nearly-75 mile long line was started in September 1858, constructed incrementally over the next few decades, and finally completed to Lyle, Minnesota, in December 1885.
In 1896, the road was sold in foreclosure to the Dubuque & Sioux City Railroad Company.
The line eventually came under the control of the Illinois Central Railroad Company.
