Historical Context
The New England Street Railway Company was formed for the purpose of consolidaying street railways, in New England as a starter, and then proceed to amplify the system so as to connect all the smaller towns by these railways, which will thus relieve the trunk lines of much of the local travel.
The company owned the following lines at the time of its incorporation:
- The New Haven & West Haven Road
- The Winchester Avenue Road of New Haven
- The Norwich Street Railway
- The New London Street Railway
- The Haverhill & Amesbury Road
- The Gloucester Street Railway
- The Plymouth Street Railway
- The Natick Street Railway
Apparently, the grand designs of the company were fleeting, as the company was dissolved on July 28, 1902.
