Historical Context
The Kansas City Railways Company was incorporated under laws of Missouri on June 6, 1914, as a succcessor to the Metrpolitan Street Railway Company. The company then acquired all the property, rights, franchises and privileges of the Kansas City Elevated Railway Company and the Kansas City & Westport Belt Railway Company.
The company owned and operated the entire street railway system serving the cities of Kansas City and Independence, Missouri; and Kansas City and Rosedale, Kansas.
After a series of post war strikes, which resulted in property damage and bloodshed, the railway went into receivership in 1920. The receivership ended in October 1926 when Kansas City Railways was succeeded by the Kansas City Public Service Company.
