Historical Context
Nauheim is a business that went from a single druggist named Simieon Nauheim in the late 1870’s to a chain of drug stores that lasted into the late 1930’s.
Nauheim's pharmacy was originally located at 44 W 3rd Street in Manhattan, but by 1889 the shop had moved to 741 Lexington Avenue - which was at the southeast corner of 59th Street.
In 1902, Nauheim sold that building and moved a few doors north to 750 Lexington Avenue.
In 1906, Nauheim sold the business to James Lurie and Abraham Stoller (who has signed this piece.)
By 1919, Lurie and Stoller had four Manhattan locations, and by 1932, that number had ballooned to 32.
In 1928, the company began to offer common stock on the New York Stock Exchange, and in 1932 the name was changed to Nauheim Pharmacy, Inc.
However, by 1935, it appears the business had vanished - probably the victim of the Crash of 1929 and the subsequent Great Depression.
