Historical Context
The Missouri-Kansas Pipe Line Company was organized in Kansas City, Missouri in May of 1928 by Frank P. Parish, Samuel J. Maddin and C. S. Shippey to harvest gas resources in the two named states.
In less than 20 months the company expanded to Kentucky, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio and Indiana.
In 1930, the company's stock plummeted from $36 a share to $15 a share before closing at $21. Parish & Co. (another concern of then-company President Frank Parish) had been set up to underwrite Missouri-Kansas Pipe Line stock but couldn't keep up with sell side pressures. With the loss of capital, the Missouri-Kansas Pipe Line Company could not fund the pipe line it was building from Texas to Indiana (which was being constructed by the Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company - yet another Parish concern). This forced Missouri-Kansas to sell 50% of its stake in Panhandle.
The company never fully recovered and went into receivership before finally selling its assets to its one-time subsidiary - the Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company.
