Historical Context
This company was organized under the general railroad law of the State of New York, and articles of association were filed in the office of the secretary of state on March 7, 1871. The capital stock was fixed at $500,000, and the company was authorized to build a road from Golden's Bridge, on the line of the New York and Harlem Railroad, to Lake Mahopac, a distance of 7.9 miles.
The road was built and opened for traffic in June, 1872, when it was leased to the New York and Harlem Railroad Company.
