Historical Context
The American Road Machinery Company was incorporated in Delaware in 1913, acquiring the following companies:
- American Road Machine Company
- Climax Road Machine Company
- Monarch Road Roller Company
- Indiana Road Machine Company
- Lima Contractors' Supply Company
The company was based in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania and had additional plants in Marathon, New York; Groton, New York; Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Delphos, Ohio.
American Road Machinery - which produced machinery and appliances for road construction, such as road rollers, roch crushers, graders, drags, elevating, screening and conveying machinery; and manufactured gun parts during World War II, - encountered financial difficulties in 1929. It was sold in 1932 to a firm in Detroit and renamed The Good Roads Machinery Company. The Kennett Square plant was closed by a labor dispute in 1945.
