Historical Context
Incorporated in Arizona, the New Dominion Copper Company’s property adjoined the Old Dominion mine on the north and the Iron Cap and Big Johnnie to the south and east. In the 1870s and 1880s, several small shafts were sunk and considerable silver ore was taken out.
The New Dominion mines were on the northeast side of Big Johnnie Gulch, 2.5 miles north of Globe. The shaft was deepened to 1200x2019. The ore consisted of cuprite with chrysocolla and some silver minerals.
