Historical Context
The Pikes Peak Tunnel Mining Railway Company was incorporated in Arizona in 1896.
According to a large ad for the company in Truth, Volume 42 (1897), this company was formed to develop a system of railroad tunnels in Cripple Creek, Colorado, as well as develop mine interests in the area and use the water encountered for power generation and irrigation for Cripple Creek.
The main tunnel would go through Pike's Peak from Colorado Springs to Cripple Creek. The company would mine along this tunnel, as well as drain water for mines above it, and also process ores at the entrances to the tunnel.
