Historical Context
The Bayano River Lumber Company was incorporated in the state of Maine in 1907 to run a lumber operation on the Bayano River in the Republic of Panama. The company owned over 115,000 acres of land, but much of it was to difficult to access efficiently, leading to the company's rather quick demise.
The company was heavily hyped - mostly by Los Angeles businessmen, but most investors lost their entire investment.
